For the second year in a row, Holland has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to participate in The Big Read. The Big Read is a program designed to revitalize the role of reading in American culture by exposing citizens to great works of literature and encouraging them to read for pleasure and enrichment.
Holland’s book of choice for this year’s event is “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien. The Kick-Off is Monday, November 2 at 7 p.m. at Maas Auditorium, 264 Columbia Ave. on the Hope campus. Dr. Fred Johnson will speak on “The Legacy of Their Burdens.” There is no charge and free books will be available at this event.
