You Can Make a Positive Difference

There are several opportunities for civic engagement in the next few months:

1. September 18 and 19, Good Samaritan Ministries will be distributing a survey to every household in the Washington School and Westcore neighborhoods. Please take a moment to fill it out. The surveys are confidential (there will be no names, just the nearest cross street) and results will be compiled by the Hope College Frost Research Center. Good Sam will use the information to designate areas that are improving and where we can work together to make things better. The surveys will be in English and Spanish and will include a return envelope, no postage necessary.

2. Your city council will be considering the changes at the entrance to Kollen Park and the final decision about on-street night parking. (Please note that the trial period for on-street night parking ends on Tuesday, September 30.) Let your views be known. Call, email or write to Jay Peters ([email protected]; 616-494-9400), councilman for Ward 2, so he knows how you feel about these issues.

3. And most important: Be sure you are registered to vote. Election Day is November 4 and participating in this privilege is essential to a politically healthy community. To register (by October 6) or to have questions answered, go to www.cityofholland.com/cityclerk/voter-registration or call 616-355-1301.
